Characters: Rio & Glow, DM, Erin, Caland, Saunders, Bo'Malus, Beneton, Merlor, Shalmara

 

As we continue Saunders all of a sudden stops and looks around in alarm. "One of my spells just vanished." Kailen and Merlor, near him, begin to check their belongings and discover that several magical items have been destroyed or weakened. Caland casts detect magic and discovers that the entire cooridoor the front members of the group have entered has a very powerful anti-magic aura.

 

From their position at the end of the marching order Rio and Glow have not entered the cooridoor and when Rio realizes what has happened he stops and returns to human form to try to Dispel Magic on the corridoor. He is successful but Caland indicates that it has only affected the first 10 feet. Rio DOES NOT wish to enter the corridoor and casts Bless and then Protection From Evil on himself and then tries another Dispel Magic. It fails. He tries again some 10 minutes later and fails again.

 

Beneton tries Dispel Magic and fails. Then Beneton gets ready to roll his "Lucky Dice". Erin, realizing this, gets a wide-eyed look and ducks for cover around a corner and yells for those others to do the same. Rio, seeing his alarm, makes sure that he and Glow are safe around the corner as well. When Beneton rolls his dice all of a sudden flowers begin raining down on Merlor. They vanish upon impact causing no damage but it seems to really piss off the halfling. Beneton rolls again and light pops up around him. He rolls a third time and everyone around him is partially healed. He rolls a forth time but nothing seems to happen. Hmm. The mage has a puzzled look on his face and seems ready to put the dice away but then rolls it again. The group is Blessed. He rolls it a sixth time and is somehow affected by a locate object. He thinks of the Traveller and announces to the group that we must continue forward as The Traveller is almost due East. Caland tries a Dispel Magic and is successful on the second of the six affected areas.

 

On the chance that their magic items will not be affected if Rio is in another form the Druid takes Glows small magic items and transforms into a hawk and has Glow carry him across. By the time they reach Beneton, Glows armor is non-magical. (The two will swap armor, so that Glow has the +1, as soon as Rio returns to human form.)

 

When the rest of the group catches up (although Erin and Merlor are very hesitant to join us but finally do) Rio and Glow two take their position at the end of the marching order but the group comes quiclky to a 40 foot cliff. Rio flies down to the bottom and Glow uses her levitation ability. The rest climb down or use other magical means.

 

We continue along the side of the cavern and come to a point where on the opposite wall, about 25 feet up there is a opening. Rio flies up and sees that it's a 20 foot cubicle room set into the wall with no apparent exits. He flies back down to rejoin the others. Continuing around we notice that ghouls have begin spewing from three openings ahead. Glow immediatly begins to levitate and moves back to the small room inset on the upper wall. Rio joins her and returns to human form. Glow gets out her bow and arrow and begins attacking. Rio casts Protection From Evil 10 Foot Radius.

 

MELEE

 

Saunders immediatly turns close to half of them. It turns out there are ghasts among ghouls. Beneton casts a lightning bolt and the resulting flash and crack of thunder almost cause Rio to lose his train of thought. Fortunatly his concentration is strong and he is able to complete the Protection spell. Next round Glow continues using arrows and Rio casts Produce Flame tossing the flame balls down onto the ghouls. A few rounds into the battle another single ghoul comes out from one of the passageways and attacks Caland who was standing very near the opening. Shortly before the end of the battle Saunders is affected by Fear from the single ghoul (which is SOMETHING else... we're not sure what) and flees in terror.

 

Finally the battle is over.

 

We bind wounds and Rio does a CLW on Merlor and another on Shalmara. Saunders, after returning to normal, ferries those still up in the Obsidian room back to the floor and we choose a direction and continue. After a few minutes of travelling we come to a large cavern that has an underground stream flowing through it. Sitting on a boulder next to the stream sits a figure that appears to be a half-elf. He seems calm and appears to be waiting for us. He shows us that he's protected by a Wall of Force and wants to be given safe passage in return for giving us The Traveller. Merlor and Beneton immediatly say we agree and the creature sets The Traveller down and then he vanishes. Merlor quickly goes up to where he was and snatches up The Traveller which appears to be encased in some type of amber or crystal.

 

Rio is skeptical and casts Detect Magic. He sees that the Traveller itself does not seem to radiate magic through the crystal. There is also no other unexpected magic. Saunders shuttles the group across the stream and we continue on investigating as we go. We determine that we've investigated most of the possible passages and finding nothing Saunders drinks a potion of Treasure Finding. He leads us to the NW and we head back to the room with the small pool. Merlor dives in and discovers that the pools bottom is false and he continues down towards where a small treasure chest is visible. A water ghoul appears and battles those who have dived in.

 

Rio and Glow remain above. When Merlor surfaces for air Rio asks what's going on but the Halfling says only "Shit !" and dives back down. Soon after those who dived in return hauling up a small chest. The bring it up out of the water and Erin manages to force it open. It contains coins and gems plus two potions. The gems are both saphires, one small and one larger that Bo announces is very valuable.

 

Saunders looks around and announces that there's more treasure off to the west so off we go to the west and discover that magic seems to be coming from that obsidian room. Merlor distributes treasure and Bo tosses the smaller saphire to Rio who hands it to Glow for safe keeping.
