Highspirits leaves the ship to perform his business.   Caland and Vorn have first watch.   It's hot and steamy and the noises of pleasure coming from A'Tora cabin, where she and Erin have secluded themselves, make it difficult for anyone to get any rest.   Lew and Illuverin have second watch followed by A'Tora and Caland.   Shortly before morning a diminuative human appears out of nowhere at a point just below the crows nest.    He flails in the rigging, unable to grab the ropes and falls to the deck below where he lays still with a serious head wound.    A'Tora wakes Vorn who comes out on deck and casts Cure Serious Wounds

The man turns out to be a friend of Highspirits.   His name is Eddinvar, the court clerk, and he warns us that Highspirits has been arrested and will be tried at noon.   He shows us the walled courthouse where the trial is to be and says that Highspirits is being held in the catacombs below accused of High Treason, Incite to Riot and other imaginary crimes.   As we are gathered around Eddinvar someone notices that two of the city guard are approaching in a small rowboat.   They call out that we should surrender and be boarded but the group decides unanimously that we'll not be made accessories to imagined crimes.   Thinking quickly Caland shoots the balista and sinks the small dinghy in which the two men and a woman are approaching.

Lew, A'Tora and Vorn make sails ready and we sail the boat away to a safe distance where Erin, Caland and Illuverin take a small lifeboat to shore.   Upon landing we hide the lifeboat and head toward the city.   We come to a bridge with guards and bypass them by going through the river.

The city gates are guarded by two women that are obviously fighters.   Illuverin, using his Ring of Transparency, gets past and causes a diversion at a carpenter's shop.   He then sneaks back near the gates to wait for the others but hears them climbing over a wall some distance away.  They manage to get back together and head cautiously toward the courthouse.   Choosing a small side door Illuverin unlocks it and looks in.   There are two guards within and as Illuverin looks in one tries to ring an alarm bell.   Illuverin pushes the other out of the way and charges toward him.   He prevents the one man from ringing the bell and Erin kills the other, but not before he is able to call for help.   Two big dark humans come running.   Illuverin is not able to hold a second door closed against their combined efforts and they enter to attack.   Caland kills one with magic and Erin kills one with his sword.   A nearby stairway leads to the catacombs and Illuverin and Caland move to investigate.   Illuverin finds Highspirits and Caland finds an injured woman who is very near death.   Illuverin is only able to pick one of the manacles holding the cleric to the wall and heads back to get Erin to try and rip the other out of the wall.   Erin attempts it, failing, and then produces a set of keys he got from one of the dead guards.   Illuverin snatches them out of his hand and unlocks the chains.   He helps Highspirits back up the stairs and they wait for the others to join them.    After determining that  Highspirits stuff is probably in one of the tower rooms we make a quick search for it and then escape via Highspirits Word of Recall and Caland's Teleportation.

The woman we rescued is a Paladin of Tyr (Hustava) and she wants to accompany us when the decision is made to return to the city, kill the Archmage and rescue the town and the captive children.   We get the ship aloft again and "dock" in the clouds above the high courthouse tower.   The group climbs down a rope and enters the tower through a trapdoor.   Illuverin stays at the top to make sure the rope back to the ship remains safe and secure.   The rest of the group splits up with Erin, Vorn and Lew heading to take care of the Sheriff while Caland and A'Tora split off to try and take care of the remaining guards.

Illuverin spends many tense minutes watching the activity in the streets below and after a while sees several guards approaching the courthouse.   He considers warning the others but decides against it since he is afraid he might miss the arrival of the evil mage should he decide to come early.   He paces the top of the tower, occasionally looking up to check on the ship, but focusing mostly on the lay of the town below.

Somewhat later Illuverin spots Lew and Hustava in the bell tower on the opposite side of the courthouse battling the guard there.    The make quick work of the guard and Illuverin watches as they wrap something around the clapper to keep the bell from ringing.
