MELEE
Illuverin charges directly for the dragon. Caland zips into the room with wand ready. Lew attacks the remaining guardsman. A'Tora casts a spell that produces a large column of ice (Alpha's Ice Bolt) that comes shooting out of nowhere and smashes into the dragon.
The dragon disgorges one of her breath weapons. Thankfully we are all protected by the scrolls and the only damage done is to one of the enemy who is incinerated. Maulgrim also charges the dragon and gets three good hits for fairly major damage.
Caland casts Ice Storm but it does little damage. The dragon attacks physically at Maulgrim and Illuverin. The next round Caland uses a wand but the only visible effect is an odd cone of gray light. A'Tora casts Hobar's Nasty Shards but there is no affect. Illuverin gets in a good hit.
A'Tora bashes the dragon with a Staff of Battle and there is a tremendous crack of thunder. Maulgrim hits the dragon again and it disappears. A'Tora and Caland immediately begin to search the room and discover some potions in a trapped desk drawer. Some of them are of the healing variety and they are distributed the party members.
Suddenly there is a voice echoing through the LARGE chamber. "Greedy creatures! Looking for treasure while your mistress lays dying."
We wait for Maulgrim's armor to cool (the dragon had cast Heat Metal on it) and then advance toward where we think the voice came from. We discover a side passageway and follow it toward its lighted end. When we get there we discover one of the female fighters we had earlier encountered standing on Estarria's head with a large two-handed sword pointed at her eye. She says she is willing to bargain with us because her evil master abandoned her to die. After some moments of tension we agree to let her go. She sets down the sword and puts an amulet that is proof against the Dead Magic Zone in this large chamber on Estarria's nose. When she does Estarria begins to shrink back to her human form.
Illuverin tries to revive her by taking his last Potion of Healing and gently rubbing some on her lips and tounge. It doesn't work but then Caland says that maybe the dead magic zone is negating the potion. We gently carry her back to the corridor where Illuverin tries again but with no effect.
"Sing to her!" Illuverin says to Lew. He cradles her head in his lap and as Lew sings her eyes to flutter open. Gently Illuverin helps her to finish the remainder of the Potion of Extra Healing and when she has returned to some vitality she tells us we must continue and regain the Dragongifts. Illuverin says that we need rest before proceeding and Estarria smiles, waves her hand and we all (except Maulgrim) fall fast asleep, the recipients of a benevolent Nap spell.
When we awake Estarria is gone. She's left the word for us to proceed northeast to the dracolich and has also left a Wand of Frost for Caland. Following Estarria's directions we continue to the north through several large chambers and then head east. Slowly the stench of age and decay begin to assail our nostrils. The end of the passageway opens into an un-natural darkness and silence. Miraculously A'Tora is able to dispel it and we see a chamber littered with bones and refuse. Rising from the center is the form of a HUGE skeletal dragon. We have reached the dracholich and the final battle.
MELEE
As we rush into the room the dracholich breathes fire and A'Tora, Illuverin and Lew all take damage. A'Tora casts several instances of Everds Black Tenticles and Caland uses the Wand of Frost. Illuverin, despite being badly injured, resigns himself to the death of a hero and charges into to attack.
After only three or four rounds the dracholich is gone. Illuverin backs up involuntary in fear of the tenticles. Then it becomes obvious that there is still battle going on he sheathes his sword, drawing his bow and advances in that direction. He sees a large fighter battling Lew and gets off two arrows.
Somewhere A'Tora says there is a mage casting against us. To our horror the body of Erin, carrying its head, shambles forward from the shadows to attack us. After it is defeated the body is shrouded in a soft blue light and we see that the head is reattached.
Now twice dead, the figure of our fallen comrade stands and before anyone can stop it he hurls his massive two handed sword into the darkness. There is a horrifying scream and the sound of steel on stone. Caland goes to investigate and finds the sword stuck into the far wall, blood pooling beneath it. He casts Faerie Fire on the general area and can then make out the skewered form of the Andaria, pinned to the wall by Erin's sword through her gut. Caland shakes his head and says something like "Goodbye Bitch" before he erupts into a fireball ending at last the evil we have come to purge.
After taking care of the remaining few enemies, including the man Maulgrim had been seeking, we find the two Dragon Gifts, the harp for the humans and the sword for the elves, and then, somewhat in shock and disbelief at our success, head wearily back to rejoin Estarria and the long return to Waterdeep.
End of session.
