Players: Kathi, Chris, JC, Davy, Kris, Bryan
Characters: DM, Lew, Illuverin, Caland, A'Tora, Maulgrim
After returning to Maulgrim and A'Tora and telling them what we found the group heads off to investigate some of the unexplored passageways. We go back to the room with the stone braziers and continue to the west. Illuverin checks the door for traps and finds none. Opening the door reveals a large roughly hewn room so he advances in with his light held high. A nasty rutterkin comes charging out. Maulgrim rushes to meet it.

Caland and Illuverin also come into the battle. Naturally it casts a magical darkness. After a few moment Illuverin (who has taken some nasty damage from a couple of blows) hears Caland call out for everyone to back out of the area of darkness. He takes one last swing and then, fearing the detonation of one of Caland's spells, hastily retreats. Once back in the lighted area Illuverin retrieves his Potion of Extra Healing and quaffs it.
When the darkness finally disapates we are somewhat surprised at the lack of body. As we look around the room and examine the mural on the northern wall Caland spots one area where there is some damage to the wall and we search for secret doors. After some 40 or 50 minutes of investigation we decide to continue on. Deciding that the shaft is the easiest way to decend we head back toward the large room in which we entered this level but before reaching it Illuverin turns to the passageway we have not yet explored. It reveals a bunch of doors. Illuverin begins checking them for traps after which Lew listens carefully at each. As they are doing this A'Tora, Caland and Maulgrim begin to investigate them. A'Tora finds a book, Volo's Guide to Waterdeep.
At the sixth door Lew hears a slight squeaking and a soft scurrying sound. Given that it is not locked Lew opens it up to reveal a sitting room with a variety of stuff within. We find a scroll case, which contains a map, a stoppered metallic vial, a pair of dice, and a desk. There is also a curtained off area in which is a large bed and a table that still has food on it. There is a frame on the wall containing a set of coins and a book sticking out from under the bed. Lew checks out the book (it's a catalogue of some type) and then examines the framed coins. Illuverin examines the dice (ask the DM!) and pockets them while Lew retrieves the coins. As he goes to put them away he notices that the coins and gems that he picked up in the first room are worthless wooden plugs and cheap glass.
Continuing on to examine the doors, Lew and Illuverin see the others coming out of one of the rooms as they are investigating them as they follow us. They've picked up an odd assortment of stuff including a strange Polymorphing Machine, some books and several scrolls. At the last door they check Lew hears a whimpering sound which turns out to be a small puppy. It begins to bark and Lew picks it up in an attempt to shut it up. We also find a large check. Illuverin diables the trap but is unable to remove the lock. There is something in it but it is certainly not full as evidenced by the lack of weight. We decide to pry open the lid of the chest and inside find a gold goblet encrusted with gems. In the next room we find five bottles of outstanding vintage wine and Illuverin makes a mental note to grab them on the way out.
Finishing up the search of all the guards quarters (as that is obviously what they were) we then go to check out the passageway leading down. Illuverin leads the way and as he passes through the entryway there is a flash. He stops abruptly but replies that he is okay when asked. The same thing happens to Lew but not to Caland or A'Tora who seem to be able to will themselves across the threshold. Illuverin tries it with no luck. Maulgrim sneers at it and walks through.
At the bottom of the stairs (which have decended almost 200 feet) we go through another archway and into a dark tunnel. Illuverin keeps to the right side of the passageway as he leads the others through it and keeps one hand on the right hand wall. Suddenly Lew puts his hand on his shoulder and the two blip some distance ahead proving the teleportation works for non-magic users as well.
We reach the end and discover a large cavern in which is a large pile of gold, gems and magic items behind which is the mature blue dragon.
MELEE
Maulgrim and Illuverin charge to attack. Lew casts ineffective Magic Missles and A'Tora casts Evards Black Tenticles. After a few rounds of battle the dragon, severly wounded by the tenticles, calls out "Yield... I yield!" but the tenticles continue and the dragon goes down. Illuverin, frustrated at his inability to hit, sets his sword against the creatures scaly hide and pushes with all his strength. He kills it!
Illuverin scrounges through the pile fishing out the first three magic items, one of which is a magic dagger which he tucks away to replace the one he gave to the dwarves. The second is a horn which he tosses to Lew and the third is a flail which he drops back into the pile. He also picks up two rings and a large ruby before we continue on.
We come to another natural cavern which is unoccupied and continue on. Going through a four-way intersection (at which we can hear something ahead) we travel a few more minutes and then begin to be pelted with arrows. We crowd behind A'Tora (and her staff that sucks up projectile weapons) and advance.
MELEE
There are three bad guys ahead and we dispatch them easily. Continuing on we come to another cavern. This one is well lit and has a barracade in front of the opening. We hear from within a deep bellowing roar. "GET OUT OF THE WAY AND I'LL FRY THEM."
Illuverin immediately retrieves the Protection From Dragon Breath scroll and begins to read. A'Tora hands a Kaplover to Lew who throws it ahead where it smashes on the side wall and engulfs the barracade. After reading the spell Illuverin charges into battle. He hits and kills one of the guards at the barracade and charges into the room. He sees the large red dragon.
Caland - takes Evil Dragon Control potion.
