Caland returns to the group before we reach the top of the stairs. He says Estartia contacted him and is being held in a Dead Magic Zone deep beneath. He reports a large armed party coming. An small petite female appears at the door. Lew charges out sword drawn. Iluvern too. Crossbow bolts from many armed men. They miss Lew, one hits Illuverin but turns to dust. Illuverin thinks Illusion but the sounds of battle continue and he charges out followed by the others.

MELEE

Many of our opponents are children, not all. They have swords and crossbows. A shield of fire envelopes one of the crossbow wielders and damages others. Erin is killed and beheaded by a half-orc. Illuverin gets a good hit on the leader but is beaten back, staggering from one of her blows. He backs into Saunder who uses an Staff of Healing. Caland turns into a Fireball and rolls through the corridor with deadly effect. We're protected by ducking back into the stairwell. At last only the leader is left and she commits suicide with a very small poisoned dagger.

Her long sword, her lieutenants bastard sword, and the battle axe from the half-orc survive Caland's fiery assault and are assumed to be magical, even though Lew cast of Detect Magic yeilds nothing anywhere.

We decide that a Rope Trick would be a good idea but are unsure where to cast it or whether or not hold the other extradimentional spaces. Illuverin examines the passageway ahead and then checks the double doors. He hears a slight whistling from within and then unlocks the door with ease. They open it and see aother set of double doors. A'Tora steps in and two blocks of the stone floorway pivot trapping her foot. She luckily frees herself. Lew and Caland toss one of the dead bodies to test the floor. It lands with a thud but nothing happens. Not wanting to risk it we return to the sewer room where Illuverin looks down. The 10' wide pipe narrows to roughly 4' some 20' down. Caland cats Rope Trick and we all take shelter within where Saunder casts Cure spells and then Nap.

Afterward we check out the sewer, which is another trap. There is some discussion and we decide that Brother Saunder should go back to the surface with Erin's body. Caland casts Levitate on him so that he could safely carry Erin over the many traps that littered the way out. The hope is that he will be able to reach the Temple of Lythander and that the clerics there may be able to resurrect the stalwart Barbarian. Before leaving Saunder gives Illuverin one of the kaplovers which Illuverin packs carefully in his firm quiver.

After Saunder is out of sight we head back to investigate the corridors. At a set of double doors Illuverin hears giggling from within. A'Tora casts StoneSkin on Illuverin (8). We open the door and our light floods in. It's a large odd shaped room with no apparent exits. A'Tora and Caland search for secret doors and Caland finds one he feels is a true secret door, not a trap pretending to be a secret door.
