Start Date: early morning of the 14th of Mirtul.

A large boulder comes crashing into the campsite scattering burning ashes and debris from the fire in several directions. The crash and screams of the horses wake everyone inside the tent. Looking up, just as his watch is ending, Jolley turns to see a hill giant and two ogres.

MELEE

Salaisee casts Holy Smite. Elendil casts Air Walk. Salaisee casts Bull Strength on Jolley. Elendil climbs to even altitude and continues to fire crossbow bolts as he does.

The ogres are the first to fall. Then Jolley reaches the hill giant creature and does massive damage with blows from Chora's Tooth (one of which is a natural 20). Elendil kills it with a final well placed bolt through the skull.

Elendil casts Cure Moderate Wounds on himself and Cure Critical Wounds on Jolley. Everyone is back to full hit points.

Just about the time the sun comes up, it begins to snow lightly. Salaisee casts Create Food & Water for a nice hot breakfast. Travel is slow, made slower because we walk when needed to keep warm. Morning travel is quiet and just as we're setting up for lunch, the snow stops. Afternoon travel is uneventful and we find a good stand of trees for a somewhat sheltered camp site. By early eveining it has started snowing again.

We contemplate the continued use of Endure Elements and decide that it is worth using on the horses just to be safe. The night is uneventful but it continues to snow throughout all the watches until almost dawn.

[15th of Mirtul, 1373 D.R. Strong winds]

The trail ahead is covered in about a foot of snow and to get everybody started Elendil casts Create Food & Water for another hot breakfast. Travel will be slow. Just before lunch, as the group comes out of a fog filled valley, the sun seems oddly reddish. It separates into multiple suns and three bolts of energy from them strike Jolley and Salaisee. [They're Magic Missiles and two strike Jolley and one Salaisee.]

MELEE

They are glowing spheres of light, all with a reddish tint.

Elendil casts Sound Burst but it doesn't seem to have any effect. Salaisee uses her sling. Jolley uses his whip which does seem to connect to something solid which flinches at the contact. In the round after they're hit, they disappear. (Will-o-wisps?)

We wait for a few moments and then continue on only to have them then appear behind us and again fire Magic Missiles at us. This time however, they wink out after doing so leaving no apparent target.

We finally either drive them off or kill them (can't tell which) and finish the morning journey. The afternoon is quiet and we find a good spot to camp. We start a fire and are having dinner when Salaisee, during the middle of a story, stops and peers intently into the flames, and asks a few questions. After she is silently a moment, she explains that she has had a vision from her spirit guide showing her a group of mounted fighters entering a fog-enshrouded valley. Sounds of a terrible battle ensued followed by the exit of only one, a woman in plate mail, who appears to be dead or dying in the saddle. Her spirit guide tells her that this occurred in the past but that the great evil that killed them still exists in Tempest Valley. It would be a dire quest should it be undertaken. This story reminds us of the story of what happened to the Harper Patrol.

The rest of the night is quiet.
