[Game Time: 5th of Mirtul]
It's cold and the day begins gray and stormy. The downpour tapers off but it remains raining throughout the morning. At 8 bells, Salaisee returns from rescuing her supplies which the Dawn Dancer house had cleared from her old cottage and thrown in the trash. She's soaked through to the bone and Billi helps her change into something warm. She also informs the halfling that she has taken care of the evening's party and returns the deposit money to him.
A short time later, Elendil comes downstairs to breakfast. Billi as usual is proving that he has certainly inherited his grandmother's skill in the kitchen. The bacon is a little crisp but everything else is wonderful. We lay Salaisee's wet stuff out to dry and will make sure that our housekeeper, Mariot Eonan, will know to launder them.
We head to the Adventurer's Guild to pickup some large bags for carrying foodstuffs and water during our journey. Billi winces at the total but pays the man. We then head off to the Palace District to pay our adventuring taxes for a year. Elendil digs out 60 platinum pieces and hands it to the gnarled old gnome. Jolley also takes care of his taxes.
That evening when we get to the Bronze Pegasus, the crowd is much larger than we expected. There's a small stage on which a duo is playing some exotic sounding instruments. Dinner is delicious and the friends and family companionship is wonderful as we get reacquainted with old friends. Salaisee has arranged for carriages for those who do not wish to walk home and the core group remains after everyone leaves and winds the evening down with a few shared drinks. Bethalon presents Billi with his father's journal. It's more of a travel guide than a journal.
6th of Mirtul - More cold and rain. That morning Math shows up to move in. Elendil helps him lift his cart onto the porch and Salaisee takes his things into the downstairs bedroom. The lad joins us for breakfast and enquires as to when we're leaving. Hearing we plan to leave tomorrow he brings the rest of his stuff in and gets settled into his room immediately.
Billi thinks that we should make out wills in case we don't come back. Elendil doesn't feel the same way (at least not all of a sudden) but will certainly honor his friends request and witness any decisions and documents needed. Billi leaves everything to Muireall on the condition of his known death or not returning to Silverymoon for one year.
Salaisee goes to the Blacklar stables to retrieve the horses purchased there. She takes them to the Silver Horse Stables so they'll be close for tomorrow's departure. We have dinner at the Dragonfly Cave to say our goodbyes to Billi's grandparents. The evening passes uneventfully and in the morning, we gather our supplies, collect the horses, and set out after purchasing some food stuffs in the Market.
7th of Mirtul - Departure day. The road is thick and muddy and our travel is not as fast it would otherwise be. Sander is obviously happy to be out on the road again and is nearly prancing with delight as we pass beyond the city gates. We set a marching order of Elendil and Salaisee in front, Billi and the pack mules in the middle, and then Jolly at the end. The morning of our first day out is quiet. Lunch is uneventful and the afternoon travel is quiet. About late afternoon, we find a spot that has obviously been used as a campsite by other travelers. We decide to stop and setup our tent, string up the horses, and settle into what we hope to be quiet evening.
We setup a watch schedule of Salaisee, then Elendil, then Jolley. Billi volunteers to help but since he's the one that requires uninterrupted sleep, we don't accept his offer. During Elendil's watch, one of the horses seems upset and Elendil goes to investigate. Segnar has uncovered what appears to be a large bone that has upset him. Elendil casts speak with animals and converses with Segnar and Sander. Neither has heard anything but Segnar is disturbed b the musty scent of death. Elendil tells them to make lots of noise if they hear anything or sense danger. Both horses agree on the promise of apples in the morning with their oats.
During Jolley's watch he gets surprised when two large humanoid creatures rush the campsite. One attacks Jolley and the other rushes the tent. Jolley is hit by the one on him and the other reaches into the tent and grabs Billi's leg. TROLLS!!!
MELEE
Jolley's sword (Chora's Tooth) bursts into flames. He dispatches the first one on him fairly easily but not before taking some serious damage. The other tries to pull Billi out of the tent but Elendil grabs his hand and pulls him back in. Salaisee takes some serious damage but heals herself.
The battle is intense but the flaming sword and our strength of numbers proves too much for the trolls and they are dispatched as Billi, once again proving himself to be as dangerous on the battelfield as he is at the dinner table, deals the blow the knocks the final one down.
End of session.
