Characters: DM, Elendil & Jolley, Billi

[Game Time: Mid-morning of Highharvestide, 1372 D.R. We've begun the Champions Challenge of the Adventurer's Guild, Silverymoon Chapter.]

Fourth Challenge

Takes place in a 20 foot square room with walls 40 feet high. There are triangular ledges, one in each corner overlooking a pool of molten lava. The group is given four potions: Alter Self, Gaseous Form, Swimming and a deadly poison. We're also given four keys. The potions are labeled with 12 letters on a 3 by 4 grid. The group is numbered with Elendil being 1, Jolley 2, Billi 3, and Bethan 4. They are each flown to a different elevated corner of the room and shackled at the ankle with a length of chain connected to the guard rail. The escape is through the center of the ceiling. Using the potions and the keys, they must unshackle everyone and get everyone through the ceiling exit.

The potions are colored amber, lavender, white and orange. Key #1 unlocks shackle #2, Key #2 unlocks shackle #1, key #3 unlocks shackle #4, and Key #4 unlocks shackle #3.

Elendil takes his potion and turns into gaseous form. He gets out the exit, turns back into solid form, and snags the numbered #4 disk at the opening. Bethan dies from drinking his potion. Jolley drinks his potion which turns out to be alter self so he turns into an eagle and tries to get Billi but runs out of time.

Fifth Challenge

This is a five sided room with a raised dais in the center and a door in each of the five walls. The floor around the dais is filled with green slime and water. The group is given a 10' coil of rope and a Ring of Spell Storing containing one Flesh to Stone. There is also a Ring of Spell Storing containing one Levitate that can be won in the room. The group crosses a plank to reach the dais and must sit in a circle. The plank is removed and the dais begins to spin.

This is the room with the cube. When the spinning stops, Bethan pretends to barf at the edge and retrieves the cube. Jolley comes over to see if he's okay and Bethan discretely passes him the cube. Jolley tucks it safely away. We then turn Jolley to stone, use him as a bridge to get off the dias, and Bethan figures out the riddle which enables us to get out of the room with the #5 disk (and the cube) with a minute to spare.

Sixth Challenge

The scenario takes place in a hexagonally shaped room. Each team member is brought in through a different door and begins on separated hexagonal platforms. In the center of the room, on its own hexagonal platform, is a statue of a Marilith, a demon with the torso of a six armed woman and the lower half that of a giant constrictor snake. In the six arms, the statue holds a variety of weapons. On the far side of the room behind the statue are two more hexagons that flank the exit from the room. Surrounding these platforms is piranha-filled water. Touching the statue's platform will bring it to life. The group is given four weapons in trap doors on their individual platforms, a Javelin of Lighting, an adamantine dagger (masterwork/non-magical), a Dagger of Venom, and a Trident of Fish Command. They must make it across the room alive and pass through the exit to get the #6 disk. Elendil and Bethan both die in the piranha pool but Jolley and Billi make it safely through Billi retrieves the #6 disk.

Seventh Challenge

The group has to climb a fifteen foot ladder to reach the top of a wall in order to deal with the room beyond. The room beyond the wall is rectangular shaped with the exit on the far wall some fifteen feet above the floor. 35 poles approximately 12 inches in diameter and 14 feet high are embedded in the floor and stand equidistant from each other. The floor itself is covered in deadly brown mold. The group must make it alive across the room and out the exit to get the #7 disk.

The group is given a 15' ladder, a 2'x10' board, a Tanglefoot Bag, 5' silver cord, and a Staff of Fire. The object is a ladder and board relay across the tops of the upright planks. The entire group makes it safely across to win the #7 disk.

Eighth Challenge

This is a twenty foot square room with the exit in the ceiling. There is a jumbled pile of boots in he center which all together constitute four pairs of magical boots. Boots of Levitation, Boots of Striding and Springing, Boots of Speed and winged Boots of Flying. There are 4 left and 4 right boots and they are numbered 1 through 8 on the heel to help keep them straight. Each member is given a command word written on a piece of paper. They sort the pairs out, figure out the command words, get the #8 disk and complete the scenario easily.

Ninth Challenge

The room is a small 10 foot square room. On the opposite wall from the entrance is a door with the outline of the word "EXIT" on it. The group is given multicolored geometric shapes that need to be fitted together to fill in and spell out Exit. Elendil decides there is no way on the Goddess' green earth and the group fails miserably.

Tenth Challenge

This small room contains a statue of Sheela the She-Goblin sitting on a crude high throne carved from solid rock. The group has to take the numbered metal disks earned from the previous rooms (1-8, we didn't get #9) plus two additional disks (another #1 and a #0) and arrange ten of the eleven (we only have 10) to fit into the circular indentations along the base of the statue in the order that Sheela would want them. If placed in the correct order the exit door will open, but if placed in the wrong order Sheela will slay whoever placed the last disk. Elendil realizes that the numbers could also be interpreted as crude script letters and he arranges them 5 4 3 1 (sideways) 6 0 8 7 1 2 so that they spell out SHE-GOBLIN. The door opens!

Results. We finish ninth out of the fifteen teams. While we don't win the side pot neither does Biscayne's team who finish dead last.

The government of Silverymoon formally agrees to pass the ownership of the now empty house to Elendil and Billi for the sum of 800gp per year in property taxes. They pay the quarterly sum of 200gp and begin their plans to move in. The next quarterly taxes are due the first of Alturiak (February).

Arondar and Lady Hightower return from the Herald's Holdfast married. Arondar deeds his home to Elendil as he plans to move into Shannon's house. Shannon relinquishes her married title with no regrets.

News during the passing months: In Marpenoth, a battle rages above the Nether Mountains, a red vs. a silver dragon. The battle rages for two days. Word reaches Silverymoon that the silver defeated the red and when the names of the two combatants circulate, Havarian and Hoondarrh, Elendil and Billi realize that they met the Silver Dragon on the road, the lady in silver armor who introduced herself as Havarian, Paladin of Light, and explained her mission was hunting down a vicious red dragon that was known to live in the Nether Mountains.

Letters arrive on the 1st of Hammer from Salaisee. She sent Elendil's to Lady Coweta's Priests Lodge and Elendil's former landlady dropped it by. Billi's went to the Dragonfly Cave. She hopes to return by the first of Myrtul.

End of session.
